Abacus Corvus Artwork is the collaborative project of Corina Dross and Jocelyn (Jo) Mosser. We are artists, siblings, and close friends. We both enjoy many mediums, but Jo has a special affinity for painting and Corina for drawing. In 2011, Jocelyn had a strange and fruitful idea: a calendar for the coming year called “2012: The Last Calendar You’ll Ever Need.” (Remember when people thought 2012 might be the end times?)
Every year since the first “last” calendar, we’ve teamed up to make a limited-edition calendar for the next year. Rather than repeat what worked once, we begin each project with new questions and genuine curiosity about what will happen. Our collaborations vary in style but are all rooted in relationship to the natural world and the worlds beyond ordinary reality. In 2017, we decided to make a calendar of "small spells"—pairing images and words to serve as focal points for people to use to amplify their own healing and magic in the world. The Abacus Corvus blog was born from this idea, and we’ve recently added a podcast to go even deeper into the working of each month’s spell.
Our artwork isn’t separate from our lived experiences. We both have a lifelong commitment to healing, and we approach both our healing practices and our art practice with similar sensitivity to emergence, to what we don’t yet know. It’s a daring way to work toward a deadline, but our collaboration has taught us a lot about having faith in the process of listening, of practicing, of centering joy before anxiety.
