The Time Traveler’s Union is delighted to welcome our esteemed Eternal Returners—you who recognize that change is the only constant, you who regularly revisit all the ages you have ever been, you who remember your life by seasons, you who honor your cyclical nature. Where would we be without your reminders that every straight line eventually becomes a circle?

We welcome your disruption of capitalist time, with its need for endless ripening. We welcome your fallow times, your doing nothing, your circling thoughts, your permission to pay attention as things change instead of leaping into action to assess, package, and monetize something—anything.

In your company, we can remember that time is a cycle and that memories are seeds. We celebrate and take to heart your radical acceptance that we will lose our way and then return, again and again and again.

About the creative process:

In our first calendar of small spells, there’s an image unlike many of our other images: it is a triangle surrounded by the night sky, containing the dawn. On the triangle are the words: Time Moves Both Ways. This old spell hails from a Joanna Newsom song. We knew we needed to revisit this one for the Time Traveler’s Union but wondered how we could come to it from a different angle. Sticking with a triangular composition, we wanted to honor the incredible 17 year cicadas that recently graced and ravaged our world down here in WNC.
