TIME KILLERS
Time Killers, 2025
Birds Kill Time, 2012
Whoosh—hello! We’re just landing after a wild travel through time this month—has it only been a month? We’re not sure exactly what day it is, but we are right on time to welcome the inimitable Time Killers to our Time Travelers Union!
The Time Travelers Union was founded by Time Killers—two siblings who, whenever they come together in conversation, become enzymes on the surface of time. Whatever forces move between us seem to cut through time as they go. So, to all our kind, we offer a hearty welcome!
We welcome those who kill time while dreaming, resting, focusing, or frolicking. We welcome all your literal and metaphorical applications. We celebrate your ability to inhabit experience so thoroughly that time dissolves around you like salt into warm water. Time cannot withstand you, and we are so lucky to have you.
About the creative process:
Hi folks, this is Jo writing. “Birds Kill Time” was the first image in our 2013 calendar Feast of Time (scroll down to the bottom of the page to peep this old calendar). This was our metadigestive calendar; whoever was doing the “eating” in one month became the one being eaten in the next. I think this older painting offers the viewer a little delight and mischief. It is representative of our early style of art-making; I was only a year into painting with gouache after painting exclusively with oil for a decade, and I was hesitant with my paintbrush. I looked to Corina for a lot of direction and permission, and the two of us were not yet confident in our collaborative roles. Our process has transformed wildly since then and the “Time Killers” painting in this year’s calendar is a great example of that. I had so much freedom and so much fun leaning into a style of illustration inspired by darker fairy tales.
